The Heart: A Contact Point for God or Satan

John 15:11, Proverbs 4:23, Philippians 4:4-7

A Disturbed Heart: Satan’s Entry Point

Do you know that when your heart is disturbed, sad, or full of offense, it becomes a contact point for Satan? Just as prayer connects a believer’s heart to God, negative thoughts serve as a connection to Satan.

What you nurse in your heart has the potential to manifest over time. Many bad things that were never spoken aloud still happen because they were nurtured in the heart.

Proverbs 4:23 warns us:
“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”

A heart filled with sadness, offense, or worry provides free access for Satan to operate. That’s why he constantly seeks to disturb your heart, knowing that a troubled heart limits your ability to connect with God.

The Importance of a Joyful Heart

God can only enter your heart when there is joy. Jesus said in John 15:11:
“These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full.”

A believer’s heart is a sacred place—a prayer room and the contact point for the Holy Spirit. When your heart is joyful, it becomes an open door for God to dwell and work in your life. However, when your heart is weighed down by sadness or negativity, it blocks your ability to sense God’s presence and experience His blessings.

Why Sadness and Worry Disconnect Us From God

  1. Sadness Attracts Satan

    • Satan wants you to dwell on your fears, failures, and offenses because these emotions create an environment where he can thrive.

    • Negative thoughts serve as a bridge between your heart and Satan’s influence.

  2. Unanswered Prayers

    • When your heart is heavy with sadness, worry, or offense, it hinders your connection with God. This is why many people pray, ask, and knock but feel as though they aren’t receiving answers.

    • Philippians 4:6-7 gives us the antidote:
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

  3. Failure is Nursed in the Heart

    • Even if you don’t confess failure with your mouth, it can still manifest if it is nursed in your heart. Whatever you allow to take root in your heart will eventually bear fruit in your life—be it good or bad.

Discovering God’s Presence Within You

What you are looking for is already within you. God’s presence is not far from you or beyond your reach—it is within your heart. This knowledge alone should bring joy. And that joy is the path to God.

As believers, we often face reasons to be worried or afraid. But there is always a greater reason not to be:

  • The awareness that Heaven is with you.

  • The assurance that God’s joy can fill your heart and restore peace.

How to Keep Your Heart a Contact Point for God

  1. Guard Your Heart

    • Be mindful of what you allow into your heart—whether through your thoughts, words, or actions.

    • Philippians 4:8 encourages us to focus on what is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, and admirable.

  2. Fill Your Heart with Joy

    • Actively choose joy by focusing on God’s promises and His presence in your life.

    • Joy is not dependent on circumstances; it comes from the knowledge that God is with you and working on your behalf.

  3. Stay in Prayer and Thanksgiving

    • A heart filled with gratitude and prayer remains open to God’s Spirit. Regular prayer keeps your heart aligned with His will.
  4. Resist Negative Thoughts

    • When sadness, offense, or worry tries to creep in, replace those thoughts with Scripture and declarations of God’s goodness.
  5. Depend on the Holy Spirit

    • The Holy Spirit is your helper, comforter, and guide. Invite Him to fill your heart with peace and joy, even in challenging times.

Prayer

“Lord Jesus Christ, restore that which is missing to make my joy complete. Help me to guard my heart against sadness, worry, and offense. Let the awareness of Your presence fill me with peace and joy, knowing that Heaven is with me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
